Celebrating Medway Rugby Club at 90!
To celebrate the Club’s 90th anniversary, Tracy Bullock the first female Chair, wanted to have a new design on products to sell in their gift shop.
I first met Tracy when I had a studio at Nucleus Arts in Chatham.
I visited the newly refurbished club in the Summer of 2021 and took lots of inspiration from the memorabilia, trophies and the hundreds of photos through the decades on the walls.
I started of with my ‘usual recipe’ of capturing as many elements of the club into a repeat pattern. This design is called ‘The Club’
Then after I wanted to focus on just the sport and illustration different action poses that are synonymous to Rugby. This design is called ‘Players’
From going to a couple of games and the strong community feel, I wanted to create a design dedicated to the families, friends and supporters. This design is called ‘Community’
Finally after the three designs were finished and sat next to each other, it felt a bit too ‘samey’ and felt like the collection needed something completely different to break it up a bit. Using the club’s colours I created a repeat pattern but in the style as it was on a shirt. I don’t like to use straight lines in my work, so the wonky lines at a bit of texture. This design is called ‘The Shirt’
